Spring is finally here, although it may not feel that way to some. Here at 123 Recycling, we would like to show you yet another fun project. If you have wandered into a plant nursery, or maybe have just been in the plant section at a retail store you may have seen little Gnome villages. These little villages help to give your garden a whimsical feel. Even though you could just purchase some of the little homes, why not customize them yourself? With this easy to do project, you can create a Gnome village all your own. By reusing plastic and metal containers that you had planned on getting rid of you can create something fun!

Gnome Home Materials Needed:
  • Containers of Choice For Your Home
  • Scissors/Box Cutter
  • Hot Glue Gun/Sticks
  • Rocks/Pebbles
  • Moss
  • Additional Sticks/Plants of Choice For Customization

With this project, the main thing is to figure out how you want your home to look. Once you have chosen your containers you must cut them as needed as well as glue them together. Make sure to get your full structure the way that you would like it before adding rocks.

Next, for a full coverage effect, you can use moss or crushed rocks as a filler. Again, the choice is yours as to how you would like to build your Gnome house.

Once you’ve decided the style of your home you get to start gluing! Make sure to be careful as the glue is extremely hot and can melt something or Plastics as well as burn your fingers while holding the rocks and place. This part of the project, of course, takes the most time. However, once you have successfully placed all of your stones the outcome is worth the time!

Another simple tip to keep in mind is to make sure to glue the rocks evenly on both the front and the back of the structure. Otherwise, you might have stability issues as your building your home! Also, don’t forget to leave any space for a door or windows that you may want to place on your home. Once all gnomeof your rocks, moss, window, and doors are in place you’re done! You can get fancy with the roof if you want to add sticks to the top to make it look more rustic or any other decorative ideas you may have! That’s what makes this project fun, it’s completely customizable.

Once you have started this project looking at containers will never be the same. There’s always a new container with a new shape that will give you endless possibilities for your Gnome Village! So have fun building a village and recycling all at the same time. Happy building!
